The majority of Americans use prescription drugs/substances in ways that are medically appropriate and do not cause negative consequences in their life. In fact, most of the people who need pain, anxiety, or attention enhancing medications can manage them appropriately. However, concerns about the risk of abuse and addiction are legitimate.
One of the challenges that we are faced with is the increasing amount of prescriptions written for medications that can be abused. We have become accustomed to them in colleges and homes and have a false sense of safety about their use. Our problem is not with substances. Our problem is with how substances interact with some individuals in certain situations and circumstances.
